Happy Holidays

May you experience each day as a sacred gift
woven around the heart of wonder.
 -John O'Donohue

Here is some inspiration for this holiday season.  Sharing Renate Hiller's "On Handwork" video with you once again, after seeing it making the rounds on Facebook.  So worth watching!  A wonderful reminder that using our hands is an essential and valuable part of being human.  Enjoy!

And another inspiring link - a TED Talk entitled "Building an artist's life" by Jolie Guillebeau.  (Thanks to Margaret Blank for this one.)

On a personal note, my exceedingly shy cat Maya finally decided, after 9 months, that it was safe to come up on my lap.  And what a lovebug she has turned out to be!  This is a gift!

I will be taking a bit of break from the blog until after New Years.  Have yourself a peace filled Holiday season.

In Full Color

Sharing some color for the season... shots of my sun bowls and balls from several years ago.  (Bowls can be found in my Etsy shop.)

I made a batch of bookmarks, some requested by my sister for her gift giving.  I gave a number of these last year as gifts.  A simple non-sew project to use fabrics from your stash!

making bookmarks

Choose your fabrics.  Using a heavy fusible, like Heat N Bond Ultrahold, iron two layers (of the same or different) fabrics together with one layer of fusible, cut to size (Mine are 2" x 7").  Voila, you have beautiful bookmarks.  Feel free to embellish if you choose, I kept it simple and let the cloth speak for itself.

Have fun!

Life's Surprises

Today I was surprised by this beautiful purple iris that had opened in my garden.

And roses still in bloom.

What surprised you today?

Listening once again to some of Rachel Naomi Remen's talks from her Story Time for Grown Ups series.   So wonderful!  You can download the talks by going to her website.
