Quiet minds cannot be perplexed or frightened,
but go on in fortune or misfortune at their own pace,
like a clock during a thunderstorm.
-Robert Louis Stevenson

OK, I admit to not working on a quilt for some months.  With navigating waters in how to build up health, my focus has been on smaller projects... knitting, prayer flags.  Now that energy is improving, I find I still enjoy the quiet of handwork.

Turner Paintings

Now on at the Getty Center, J.M.W. Turner: Painting Set Free is a remarkable exhibit bringing together 60 oil and watercolor paintings from Turner's later years.  I have been a fan of Turner's work ever since my art student days in England ... viewing the Turners at the Tate was a must do on visits to London. In this current exhibit I was particularly fascinated by his watercolors.  They are masterful, delicate expressions of light and atmosphere.   This was one of my favorites:

Organized by the Tate Britain, J.Paul Getty Center and  Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, it is the first time that such a large number of Turner works have been on view on the west coast.  This exhibit at the Getty closes May 24th, and will open in San Francisco on June 20th.  I highly recommend it!

I am always uplifted by my visits to the Getty... there is an expansiveness about the place, situated as it is on a rise overlooking the city.  Here are some views from my day.

May at the Gardens

Sometimes you hear a voice through the door calling you,
As a fish out of water hears the waves … Come back.  Come back.
This turning toward what you deeply love saves you.
~ Rumi

Time for another visit to the inspiring Huntington Gardens, Galleries and Library in the company of good friends.  What a lovely day, bright sunshine and not overly warm.  The Huntington is expanding.  The newly designed front entry area and gift shop were open (these were under construction on our last visit).  There are several new areas also under development in the Chinese garden.  Enjoy the show -

Visits to the Huntington always nourish my senses and renew my spirit.  Being in the gardens is a fine way to come back to ground ... to presence.
