TAFA Turns 5!

The Textile and Fiber Arts List (TAFA for short) is celebrating a 5th Anniversary!  Readers here have seen TAFA and its members mentioned in my posts.  The Textile and Fiber Arts List is a community of entrepreneurs grounded in textile and fiber art products and traditions. The tireless motivational force behind TAFA is artist and business woman, Rachel Biel.  TAFA came into being through Rachel's vision of community, developing into an international organization of over 500 members from 44 countries.  One of the latest developments is the online shop ArtizanMade, including a number of TAFA members.

I am proud to be connected with this exceptional list of artists and crafts related business people that includes (to name but a few)...
Wonderful quilts by Sally Gould Wright, Linda Friedman and Judy Warner ...unique wall hangings by Leslie Rinchen Wongmo of Threads of Awakening...

A New Set Begins....

In the summer of 2005, I created the Bhavana Project, an ongoing community work centered around prayer flags.  Back then I could not have predicted the joy and connection that would encompass this project. Please read more about the history here.  Other than flag exhibits, things have been rather quiet since the completion of the third set.  Seems very fitting to begin a new fourth set in 2015, the 10th Anniversary of the project.

I usually start out each set with the initial flag.  YES kept rising up in during my reflections about what to express with this flag.  It speaks of positivity and openness.  May others join in with this spirit while sharing their personal aspiration.

Are you interested in playing a part?  The flags are waiting for your attention!

Also, coming on March 15th in Oxnard, I will be teaching another Creative Circle workshop to make prayer flags.  Learn more here.  I would be appreciative if you could spread the word.

Stay tuned...

Perusal, Reflection and UFO's

It's also helpful to realize that this very body that we have, that's sitting here right now... with its aches and its pleasures... is exactly what we need right now to be fully human, fully awake, fully alive.

Sharing some links of New Year's inspiration-
David Limrite offers a thought provoking list for clarifying your artistic intentions.  And after, here is part 2 of the list.....

I have been meaning to post this talk from my friend, Sandra Lauterbach about inspiration and process in creating her moving quilt, "The Wailing Wall of Krakow", on exhibit at 2014 International Quilt Festival Houston.

Finally finished a knitted UFO (unfinished fiber object).  I was trying out breed specific yarns several ago.  The yardage of this hand dyed purple Wensleydale yarn was too short for a full scarf, so it became a cowl (with enough length to wrap twice around my neck).  I chose Wensleydale for softness, and it is!  I learned about breed specific yarns in the Craftsy class "Know your Wool" with Deborah Robson.  Robson's Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook is a fascinating reference book on all things fiber.

Hello and Happy New Year!  Slowly packing away the holidays.  How about you?  Here are some views from my New Year's day walk on the Santa Monica bluffs.

And as promised, a Christmas gift project.  This is an exploration book for young Jackson.... to exercise the coordination of the fingers and mind (still may be a bit early, but he'll grow into it).  I created a similar textile book some years ago for my nephews, and was fun to revisit this.
