Sun as Muse

Here in Southern California there are no dramatic seasonal changes, it is the quality of light that shifts. At this time, I can sense fall's approach as the light softens, losing the summer intensity.  With light being such a constant, it is no surprise that the sun has been an ongoing influence for my artwork using fabric, stitch, paint and color.

Studies in Vedic chanting, with chants to the sun in particular,  further inspired my use of sun imagery.  (The Vedas are among the oldest sacred texts, dating as early as 1500 BCE, and have been passed down as an oral tradition in India from teacher to student.)  Surya, "sun" in Sanskrit, is often praised as the ignitor of energy and clarity.

Practicing meditation within the Shambhala tradition introduced the rising sun as the awakening of dignity, adding yet more creative inspiration.

Robert Genn wrote: "Your true muses are those that turn you on, interest you, excite you and motivate you to explore further."  Guess this one fits that description as she continues to delight my curiosity, while I delve into new ways to express her qualities.   And who are your muses?

Even after all this time
The sun never says to the earth,
“You owe Me.”

Look what happens with
A love like that,
It lights the Whole Sky.

  1. Linda, Your work never fails to inspire as you consistently capture the essence of your subject.

  2. I totally love 'Energy", Linda. The impact of the thread work on the dark background is stunning. Will have to ponder your question on muses.......haven't considered it. :)

    1. Thanks, Judy... will wait to see what you consider as to muses...
