Dancing Away

Happy to report that several quilts went to new homes the other week.  May they bring much enjoyment to their new owners.  

"Dance" is a textured piece created with my quilt and shrink method.  Quilting stitches followed the dye shapes.  Post washing and shrinking, oil sticks, foil and hand embroidery were added.  I thought I was creating a landscape, which changed as the quilt developed when a figure form appeared to be calling for attention.   I chose to accent her in simple lines with hand couched cotton yarn, allowing the spiral foiling to be the head.  The movement of shapes, colors and line danced together.  It has both the landscape and human feel to it.




"Lighten Up" came out of a 2009 hand series of journal quilts.  Techniques include drawing with watercolor pencils, bead embellishing and machine quilting.
