Details Added

Articulated  had been completed months ago, except for finding beads for the yarn "tails".  So here it is now fully finished.  (Sometimes I wonder if there is such a thing with certain pieces....)

As I wrote, the spinal column was inspired by the patterning in my hand dye, which became the background.  I fused the appliqued vertebrae, wove fabric strips for side and bottom panels.  Yarn is hand couched for the draped "tails" and the border of the yellow silk ribbon channel.  Beads were added to the tail ends.  Movement and interconnection are themes I was playing with in this piece.  What does it feel like to you?

  1. Yes -- movement and interconnection -- and 'flow'. The curving 'spines' could also be stone/rock pathways in a stream...

  2. Yes, flow...always flow!

  3. Hi, Linda. Very interesting idea about the spinal column. Such an important part of our bodies and health that we never think of until we have problems. And the structure is fascinating and translates so well into fabric. Also liked your Fissures piece. Very vibrant colors. Especially liked the stitching at the bottom--perfect!

  4. Thank you so much, Nadia!
