Leaf Experiments

Over the past few months I have been playing with leaves, initially inspired by the trees shedding leaves. I have been making rubbings with all sorts of pencils, crayons, oil pastels and oil sticks.....then began to create thread leaves using soluble stabilizer.
I will be sending in some leaves for the new Fiber Arts Collaborative project (remember the wrapped gas station last year?) called "Interdependence". Participants will create a full-sized tree for display in April 2009 at Big Springs International Park in Huntsville, Alabama. Much like a live tree is interdependent on its leaves and roots for survival, societies are interdependent on the greater whole. Up to 30,000 leaves may be used. See:

SAQA Trunk Show

A bit of sun (10" square) for the upcoming SAQA 20th Anniversary Trunk Show. This travelling exhibit will be the means to introduce members and their artwork to each other. See: for more info.

The sun's optimism feels appropriate to me as we move into this new era in our country and world....yes, even with all the work ahead.

I am reminded of this verse-
"Return to the Self within,
Know your own secret,
The universe is inside you,
You are inside the universe.
The inner Self is the one who dances in all,
The one who is here and the one who is there."
